You will be picked up from Galle Face Hotel in Colomobo and your driver will take you to Habarana. En route, visit the huge stand-alone rock cave temple of Dambulla, measuring 170m in length - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Admire the breathtaking view from the top of the 100m high rock, including five adjacent caves that were later converted into a magnificent rock temple by King Valagambahu. Inside the caves you will find numerous statues: a reclining Buddha and other deities associated with Buddhism that mark the history of the Sinhalese. There are frescoes on the walls and ceiling that date from the 15th - 18th centuries. Arrival at the hotel in the evening. Check in. Overnight in Habarana
After breakfast visit Polonnaruwa. The old capital is impressive for every visitor with numerous restored ruins of palaces and monasteries. Polonnaruwa is historically divided into three core areas: the Royal Palace, the Quadrangle (a square bordered by buildings) and the crematorium site. Each area is unique and deserves a detailed tour. In the afternoon, optional jeep safari in Minneriya. (not included in the price, costs 70 euros per person). Overnight stay in Habarana
After breakfast, climb Sigiriya Rock, also known as "Lion Rock", where a fortress was built by King Kashyapa in the 5th century AD, who had his father murdered. It was an exceptional natural site for a fortress that takes its name from the lions, which are believed to have occupied caves in ancient times. The massive "Lion Rock", with its flattened peak, towers over the surrounding landscape and forest, with a magnificent view across the dry zone and south to the central highlands. Within the remains of the fort you can see the remains of the palaces, covered galleries, where there are the only painted representations remaining in this country, on a secular theme, in extensive grounds with water gardens. Around midday you will drive to Sigiriya Village, where you will experience traditional Sri Lanka in all its authenticity. You will spend time with the villagers and get to know village life. Lunch is included in the program. Overnight in Habarana
After breakfast you check out which takes you to Kandy. En route, visit a herb garden and a batik factory in Matale. Kandy was an important independent monarchy in Sri Lanka and is located in the central/eastern part of the island. The Kingdom of Kandy was founded at the end of the 15th century and existed until the early 19th century. Kandy was conquered by the British in 1815 and finally lost its autonomy in 1817 after the Uva Uprising. The most famous landmark of Kandy is the lake, which lies in the middle of the city. There you can take a pleasant walk. In the afternoon you will learn the process of gemstone processing and the types of gemstones. In the evening you will witness a cultural dance program of Kandy. Overnight in Kandy.
After breakfast visit the temple with the sacred tooth relic of Buddha. Then you continue to Nuwara Eliya – the center of the hill country, which is also called “nature paradise”. Nuwara Eliya is the heart of the tea country located in the central highlands at 1980 m altitude. The climate in this place is much cooler compared to other parts of Sri Lanka around +10c° (don't forget to take a jacket). You can take beautiful panoramic photos from Shanthipura viewpoint. City tour. Overnight stay in Ella.
Übernachtung in Nuwara Eliya.
The day is free for you to do your own activities, relax, explore, hike. Optional tour (not included in the price): In the early hours of the morning, a picnic breakfast will be provided by the hotel and you will travel to Horton Plains National Park, located at an altitude of more than 2000 meters in the central highlands. Please note that at this altitude the climate is much cooler and windier than in the lowlands of Sri Lanka, with an average annual temperature of 16°C rather than the 26°C found on the coasts. It is cold in the winter months and there can even be frost at night. Overnight stay in Ella.
Übernachtung in Yala.
Übernachtung in Beruwala.
